Spectraglass offer a range of glass products to suit specific applications – see details below

Stoves

We offer two different types of glass for this application, namely:

Robax – Schott brand name for transparent ceramic glass
Ceran – This is special heat resistant glass suitable for stoves, cookers and fires which is made by Nippon Electric

UV Block

Microguard – Schott supplied glass used for picture frames to prevent UV light damaging valuable pictures in Museums etc
Uvilux – another Schott product which blocks UV from artificial light sources thus allowing organic materials to be exposed for longer periods. Commonly used in shop windows and display areas to prevent fading of clothes etc

AR Coated

Amiran – Schott supplied material which possesses a high light transmission characteristic i.e. 98% (compared to 91% for ordinary glass). This glass provides better visability for monitors and instruments

Conturan – also made by Schott and is very similar in performance to the Amran product. Used for monitors, display panels and TV screens

Radiation Shield

RD 50 and RD 30 – both products are made by Schott and used in Health Protection applications. For example, this type of glass provides protection for technicians monitoring x-ray processes in medicine and in industry

This type of glass has the following density characteristics:
RD 50 = min 5.05 g/cm3 density
RD30 = min 3.13 g/cm3 density

The glass contains a high percentage of lead oxide to absorb x-rays. Despite its unique qualities, this type of glass can be processed as normal, including toughening

Satin Finish

This type of glass is treated chemically to produce a satin finish and is mainly used in decorative applications or where privacy is required. Satin glass is also used extensively in the lighting industry to act as a diffuser

Coloured

Glass is available in many commonly used colours. Signal colours such as red, green and amber are generally used in lighting applications whereas deep blue might be specified for something like an observation filter

Schott produce a wide range of coloured glass products under the brand name: Imera

Laminated

This is a type of safety glass that holds together when shattered. This feature is achieved by incorporating an interlayer, typically Polyvinyl Butyral (PVB), between its two or more sheets of glass

Fireproof

This is a clear architectural glass which is used for fire protection requirements i.e. it allows time for personnel evacuation / escape and fire-fighter access

This type of glass is available in different brand names from the following manufacturers:
Pyron S – Schott
Pyrobel – AGC
Pyrostop - Pilkington

Wired

This type of glass is used for security and fire protection requirements. It is however less frequently used now as a result of the introduction of clear glass alternatives

Opal

This glass has a white, opaque appearance and is widely used as a diffuser in the lighting industry

Schott make an opal product known as Opalika however production of this particular material has been suspended until 2013

Mirror

Silvered mirror is available in a number of thicknesses and can be shaped, decorated, drilled etc., to meet individual customer requirements

Front Surface (FSM)

This type of mirror is used for photography, audio visual projection and laser scanners etc. It is made by applying a vacuum-deposited, hard aluminised coating on the top surface of a high quality glass

The advantage of FSM is that the light or image is not refracted through the glass, as would be the case with a standard rear surface mirror

Rear Surface

This is the glass commonly used for most types of household mirrors
